Well, What Have We Here?

Y'all are probably going to get annoyed with me for posting The Westie Wildlife so much, but seriously, all these bugs and creatures fascinate me.

So today, when I saw this bright red spidery looking thing hanging on the net of the trampoline, I was compelled to go grab my camera.

Upon closer inspection, it is definitely NOT a spider (in fact, it appears to be dining on one... sorry!), but I have no idea what kind of insect we have here. It looks like a land-dwelling shrimp with those tenticles, but what do I know? Any guesses, or better yet, any positive ID's?

Thanks!

First of all allow me to get the EEEEEKK out of my system,LOL! This is one nastly looking critter for sure! I did try googling "pink red spider" and the only thing I found that *might* identify it was info on crab spiders? I can't beleive you got close enough to photograph this thing, YUCK

In usual guy fashion - I was totally fascinated by the picture...good stuff. I have no idea what it is, but if it's eating a spider then that is one bad insect! Keep up the cool wildlife post...I never get tired of seeing crazy bugs and vermin.

Weird. Shrimp bug sounds like a good ID (short for identification not the southern version or pronunciation of idea - just to clarify) ;) to me. But I am no entomologist. Yep. Shrimp bug.

Well, I think it's another spider. It has the same kind of segmented legs, only the front ones are forward and up so it can get at it's prey.
As to what kind of spider it is, you may find your answer if you take the photo into a local museum .. ??
