Weirdo Intervention

You know I have admitted before, albeit infrequently, that I am a weirdo when it comes to music.

I'm a weirdo because I don't really listen to it. Ever. Well, ok, there's CHURCH, and every time an obnoxious teenager gets next to me in the turn lane shaking my mini-van to DEATH with their bass....

It's not that I hate music. Actually, it's quite the contrary, but I've just fallen out of the loop, I guess. I didn't want to keep listening to the stuff that I'd listened to as a teenager, and Country Music usually leaves me crying since it's all "she left me, she took the kids and the dog, and now all I have left is this shack in a bog". No thanks. I can muster up some real life drama easily enough if I really want it.

Eventually the only choice I had was Christian contemporary and talk radio. Since Christian contemporary sounded all the same to me.... Guess what I chose? And guess where I've remained for about a decade? I LOVE talk radio, people. See, I told you: Weirdo. But isn't the first step admitting that you have a problem?

I think it was in an effort to help his backward wife that Mark bought me a sweet little MP3 player for Christmas. But do you want to know what I've downloaded? Sermons.

I DID put some Mercy Me and Casting Crowns on there, but that's the extent as far as the old acoustics go. HOWEVER. I will say that listening and singing these songs have REALLY brought me out of my music-less fog. It's been nice but now I have a problem... I have no stinkin' clue what is good anymore.

I need a really awesome mix of tunes, y'all. So can you help a sorry gal out? Would you tell me a song or six that's really rockin' your boat right now? And don't forget to say who the artist is because, remember, I've been sort of asleep for about 10 years when it comes to this.

Thanks. You're awesome, you know that?

Well, you're off to a great start with MM & CC. Chris Tomlin is a must-have: Jesus Messiah, God of This City (both from his latest Hello Love CD), and of course, his older ones like How Great is Our God and Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone).

Then there's Chris Sligh - Empty Me. 33 Miles - One Life to Love

Hey, pop over on Saturdays for Then Sings My Soul Saturday and you'll see a bunch of songs - my blog links to Amy's (Signs, Miracles, & Wonders) meme. There's also a button on my sidebar.

And KLOVE lists their top songs here. You can listen to samples and see the lyrcs and that will give you a good idea of what the current big songs are. The one listed by Brandon Heath, Give Me Your Eyes, is wonderful.

psh, well this post just tells us how smart a girl you are. i'm rockin' out on senseless stuff and you are gaining knowledge. go figure!

mine: rita springer, shawn mcdonald, ayiesha woods, matt redman, needtobreathe, shaun grove are a few, but i'm a well rounded girl (not just in the bod) but i love all sorts of music: christian, secular and oh my yes...COUNTRY!

better be sharing a list of everyone's tidbits girl. i'd love to hear about more too.

Oh boy, let's see- Chris Tomlin for sure, Sara Groves, I got some Life House for hubby for Christmas and we like that. We got our daughter Natasha Bedingfield and it's clean and fun- we have been grooving to that lately as well. I have a big, eclectic love of music, so I better just leave it at that for now.

I'm with you on the Christian contemporary music pretty much all sounds the same. There's a few that are different but generally, yeah, where's the creativity? Did we hand it over to the world? Probably.

But here's what we jam to in the car via my ipod...

HOLY by Corey Asbury and Matt Gilman (I got this from itunes - it's out of IHOP)

Barlow Girl

Superchik

Rick Pino - not sure the title but it's wild, passionate worship. Good.

HOLY by Corey....oh, I already said that.....

Jason Upton - again, creative and passionate worship

HOLY by Corey....oh, again....

OK, that's enough. (We listen to HOLY A LOT and I've had it for quite a while. Still way good.)

"Good" music is whatever you think it is. I love talk radio, too.

Caedmon's Call. They have a little different sound than what's usually on the radio. I know that's a group and not a song, but I like most of their stuff.

I'm not a huge help but my suggestion is to go to PANDORA radio (online, google it, it's free) create a station of something you like (casting crowns) and they'll pick others like them for you. I don't think there's ever been a song come up I didn't like....worth a shot while you're folding laundry right?

Gayle, I am exactly like you. This is very strange, I think. Wonder how many of us are out there? The music I do listen to from time to time is from the 70s, but mostly, I just listen to talk.

Mocha linda's KLOVE suggestion is great. I love that Brandon Heath song, even though i said I don't listen to much. I really don't.

Having teenage girls, I'm getting introduced to some christian music that I probably normally wouldn't listen to.
B. Reith is kind of jazz with rap.
Go to steelroots.com for some different bands.

No Christian- we love most of Jack Johnson music - very beachy..

I'm sorry but I can not understand the no music thing....... I have this really beautiful CD with a nice mix of songs.
"Sing Over Me" Worship songs and Lullabies...it includes a mix of some sweet songs, like: How Great is Our God, Here I am to Worship, You are Good, Hold onto Jesus, How Deep the Father's Love For Us... it's geared for children and so I listen to it in the car with them..it's become one of may favorites....as well as many listed above. Enjoy, music is a good thing!

Gotta admit, I prefer talk radio too. And I MISS IT!

Anyway...my family bought me an iPod last year and the daughter loaded up some music -- lots and lots of it -- and about the only artist I listen to is Sara Groves. I luuuurrve her! I have the music from her Conversations CD. "Painting Pictures of Egypt" is my absolute, hands-down favorite and has been since I first heard it.

I also love Alison Krauss. Her voice is so pure and her music is bluegrass, NOT country. Big diff! Bluegrass reminds me of celtic which I also really like but don't have any of on my iPod yet.

I'm kind of out of the loop too. I like to listen to Rush Limbaugh when I have a moment. One song that I like is While I'm Waiting. Don't know who it's by but it's from the movie Fireproof.

I just dropped in to let you know I've given you a double-award. Please come by & grab them when you get a chance.
