Get Ready, Get Set...

We are exactly one short month away from the Summer Olympics, and I for one, am pretty pumped. I am not an avid sports fan, but for some reason, I really enjoy the Games. My absolute favorite ones to watch are Swimming, Diving (oh....who can forget the time Greg Louganis cracked his skull off the board....I still cringe) and Gymnastics. And I am not biased by gender either because I follow both the men's and women's competitions.

Here's the cool thing in Westie World though: For the first time ever, we have a DVR which will allow us to record the events that we missed. That rates pretty high on the cool factor because I fully intend to plop my heiny on the couch with an ice cold Coke, alternating between something sweet and something salty (but both high in fat), while cheering on those who are pushing themselves to their respective physical limits. Oh, the irony. It's a beautiful thing, isn't it?

So, do you watch? And if so, what are your favorites?

I like the opening ceremonies and gymnastics and closing ceremonies the best. And the Diet Coke over ice with something salty and something sweet.
Oh, and I firmly believe the DVR is the world's best invention.

I like the gymnastics and skating.
Can you believe we don't have DVR still???
I'm kinda old fashioned and like to run to go pee during the commercials! ;-)

When I was single I only watched swimming, diving, and gymnastics. (and of course the opening/closing ceremonies)

Then I got married and my hubby introduced me to track and field.

This year my 8 yr old informed me that we would also be watching basketball.

But swimming and diving are still my favorites!

I'm a doofus and pretty sheltered and didn't even realize it was that time of year. I actually enjoy watching but we'll see how much I get in this year. Keep us posted (just in case) would ya? :)

You're so funny! Hmmm, I hadn't thought of the DVR as useful here, but NOW I do, thanks! xo

We've been watching the swimming trials for the past week or so. It just sucks you in! I'm kind of bummed that we'll missing a good part of the actual Olympics, since I'll be all up in some giving birth in about a month!" :-)

I really like watching the gymnastics, unfortunately we don't have television....I wonder if there is a way to watch on the internet?? Hmmm, I may have to look into that.

Hmmmm. What do I have to say about this little post today that promotes utter laziness and gluttony....? Just wish I could participate in it with you in person!

We haven't seen the Olympics since Mary Lou Retton was the most celebrated gymnast of all times...

I'm dating myself!

Those were good times.

I loved to watch the opening and closing ceremonies and the gymnastics and diving....do they still have equestrian events?

I just can't believe they're being held in Beijing! Next it will be Cuba, then Venezuela, then Iraq!!!

Enjoy!

I really need to get dvr...we are still living in the dark ages. I love diving, gymnastics, swimming, all of it! I cry every time I see an American with a gold medal singing our National Anthem. It just gives me chills!
Hey, I'll come hang out with you, you snack like I do! :)

We always go back and forth on watching the Olympics. Though I think we will watch some of these our of curiosity on how China does hosting it all.

Have a great week

Hey! It was awesome to meet you last night, too. I didn't realize I could have so much fun with total strangers! :)
As for me, I'm a HUGE gymnastics fan. Also love any type of water sport as well as track and field.
I will join you in sitting, watching, and eating fattening stuff. I mean, the athletes don't eat ANY of that stuff, so I need to eat their portion.
Because I'm all about keeping the world in balance and harmony.
It's my duty as an American.

I love the Olympics too. I don't have enough patience for the opening/closing ceremonies, but like the gymnastics best, I guess- seeing as I can't even touch my own toes! I think the winter olympics are my favourite though. We have them next, right here close to us! Yay!!!! NOw if everything wasn't going to cost an arm and a leg to attend, we might actually try to go!!!

Absolutely! I am a HUGE Olympics fan!!! My favorites are the same as yours, but I also like to see the Track & Field Events. We;ve already started watching some of the Olympic Trials. I get so excited!!! :) The only bad thing about the DVR is that it gets full, especially when you're recording in HD. I'm going to have to wipe it clean to record the Games. ;)

Hi, Gayle, so nice to meet you & the other B'ham girls this week. Let's do it again in the fall. I think we'll have more showing up next time.

Love the pool stuff, especially diving. We like tennis, and we're especially thrilled to have cable this time around. We have memories of watching Wimbledon and not being able to see the ball. But being certain that the Williams sisters looked fabulous.

Gymnastics, gymnastics, and GYMNASTICS! My daughter is obsessed with the sport. Only problem, I have to ban her from the trampoline after she watches it, or she's out there trying all sorts of dangerous stunts. ~K

PS. For me, it's all about the snacks!

Oh the DVR. What did we do before it? It's like non-edible chocolate.

Swimming, Diving, Gymnastics. And volleyball (the team kind in the gym, not the beach variety).

I love that they split the Winter and Summer so that we have an Olympics every 2 years instead of waiting 4 years and having both the same year!
